WALLETS
Software or hardware that manages cryptographic keys and prepares messages for a blockchain network. Assets remain recorded on the network rather than inside the wallet application.
Common misconception
A wallet is not a container holding coins in the same way a physical wallet holds cash.
TRANSACTIONS
A network-generated identifier for a submitted transaction, commonly abbreviated as txid or transaction ID.
Common misconception
A hash proves that a transaction exists on a specific network, not that the recipient controls the destination or will credit an account.
NETWORKS
A system of nodes that follows a shared protocol to order, validate, and record transactions and state.
Common misconception
Choosing the cheapest network is not safe unless both endpoints support the exact asset and route.
ASSETS
The asset built into a network's protocol and commonly used to pay its transaction fees.
Common misconception
A dollar-denominated token balance does not automatically pay network fees on every chain.
DEFI
Code deployed to a blockchain environment that changes state or moves value when its defined conditions and calls are executed.
Common misconception
Published or immutable code is not automatically correct, safe, audited, decentralized, or appropriate for a particular use.
SECURITY
Deceptive communication or interface designed to obtain secrets, induce unsafe signing, install malware, or redirect a victim to an impostor service.
Common misconception
Correct logos, professional grammar, HTTPS, caller ID, or a familiar sender name do not establish authenticity.
RISK
The size and speed of price changes over time, including moves that can occur before a position can be adjusted or exited.
Common misconception
Past price stability or recent gains do not set a floor under future value.
RECORDS
A recordkeeping measure generally associated with the amount assigned to an asset for gain or loss calculations, subject to applicable rules and adjustments.
Common misconception
A wallet balance or current market value does not by itself establish tax basis.
